You guys aren't gonna believe what I did....

Yup. I got marked by the Outsider.

My third official tattoo and I just had to get the Outsider's mark. I love the Dishonored series and I absolutely love the Outsider. But also this symbol is just so fucking cool so I committed and finally got it.

Surprisingly it wasn't that painful, except in very tiny spots. I am so happy though. Seeing my hand makes me smile because it's just so fucking cool UGH I'm so happy.

even some years later I find that Dishonored Death of the Outsider is probably my favourite installment of the game. I adore 1 and 2 but it's something about DotO that really stuck with me.

maybe it's the themes of forgiveness that I think converged in that game. or the theme of power imbalance, of the occult. the theme of things going on behind the curtain, of going too far and the punishment for it.

Billie and the Outsider being the most unlikely characters to walk the same path, but it works because in the end, they are the most likely to do so and to understand.

DotO has such a liminal feel to it, too. you are nearly invisible in that game, on purpose. you are not a person coming from high societal standing, you watch everything go by from down below.

and I know it's not very popular, but I actually really love the resolution for Daud's story in it. he is a tired, bitter old man on a mission, with grudges, but he gets to rest. maybe even let go.

and oh the Outsider's story is gorgeous in it, too. it's not always easy to resolve a mysterious figure, but I think DotO did it so tastefully. not quite fully revealing everything, but enough to put the Outsider's story into an interesting perspective.

i feel like the most minor of changes would have made the death of the outsider plot not so jarring for daud's characterization. a version of the game wherein daud sends billie to kill the outsider— not as revenge, but as a wild goosechase to keep her from having to see him in his final moments. he sends her bc he doesn't believe the cult is onto anything. doesn't think it's even possible to kill the outsider & then OOPS! it super is & now billie is caught between daud's wild goosechase & the outsider's desperate need to escape the void one way or another.
